The Wen Re Lun (温热论 — Treatise on Warm-Heat Diseases)
Composed by Ye Tian-shi (叶天士) during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911), the Wen Re Lun, together with its alternative version the Wen Zheng Lun Zhi (温证论治 — Discussion and Treatment of Warm-Heat Patterns), constitutes an exceptional work through the contribution it makes both to clinical practice and to the development of theories concerning epidemic and febrile diseases. It is indeed on the basis of this work, and of the Wen Yi Lun — a treatise that had appeared some decades earlier — that all subsequent theories on warm-heat diseases developed by later physicians took their foundation. To this day, it is still consulted for establishing the treatment of recent epidemic diseases such as SARS, MERS, Ebola, COVID-19, and so on.
